I've always wondered - why did the Babe STOP pitching? Yes, the Yanks wanted to maximize ticket sales by playing him every day, that's fine - of course his bat was worth having in the lineup. But for god's sake the guy was a 20+ game winning lefty who'd pitched a 14 inning complete game in the World Series - and won. Admittedly it was at a time when top pitchers were 30 game winners, and 5 man rotations were an unheard of concept, but still... you wonder why he didn't pitch ever 4 days and just go back to the outfield.
