I thought I'd have to blog about saying goodbyes - I really didn't want to, because I feel I'm going to keep in touch with the important people. But I said a few tonight, including my hardest one.
But I got something to blog about.
Opie and Anthony have been cancelled AGAIN.
This time, they had a contest that had something to do with encouraging people to have sex in public places. I guess they wanted like a picture or something for probably a really nice prize packages. Couple of couples got caught - one in a catholic church, and O&A were pulled off the air again by their network. The FCC is looking into it....
... yes, you got that right. The fucking FCC. The radio station had to pull Opie and Anthony, because they could get in trouble if they don't take their own "disciplinary and corrective actions," because the FCC is on their ass and legally controls the airwaves and their authority to broadcast.
The FCC, which is supposed to be bound by the fucking FIRST AMENDMENT. Now I don't listen to O&A - didn't then, didn't now. I don't like them, I find them distasteful, but they have the fucking RIGHT to say what they want, because it's funny, or at least because they find it funny. And obviously a WHOLE lot of people do, because they've attracted a huge fan base wherever they've broadcast. And I guess sometimes people think the jokes go too far.... well for fuck's sake, people said Hugh Hefner went too far, people said Larry Flynt went too far, people said Elvis Presley went too far, people said Jerry Springer went too far. BUT THESE ARE PEOPLE WHO HAVE SHAPED THE NATURE OF OUR COUNTRY. These are American -icons-, and that we can have such icons is honestly a deeper part of what makes our nation great. That we have the right to have some things that lots of people are ashamed of, but that are THERE in the public so people don't have to hide their less politically correct sides. You don't fucking see anyone cancelling Playboy, do you? Nobody did, even though most of the country thought it was scandalous. Because it was legally protected - and so is the Opie and Anthony show, except for the fact that federal bullying is taking the place of the law.
This is the kind of shit that pisses me off.
This is why I want to go to DC.
This is why I want to make a name for myself on campus.
This is why I want to be a lawyer.
To try and stop, one case at a time, this shit.
