Just a musical comment, thinking back on some stuff as I wrote that last blog.
I'd never really thought about WHY John Mayer chose to play Neon as his final encore for us. I'd figured... most artists play the hit last, right?
How fucking wrong was I - he played 3 x 5 pretty late too. He played his best songs last, not his hits. Well played. There really is a difference with some artists between their best work, and their hits. My guess is the longer an artist is around, the more of their best songs will become hits. I guess some just don't strike the right chords immediately, because in my personal opinion of Mayer's two best songs on his recent album, only one even made decent single airplay, and wasn't anywhere near as big as his first two singles. Which were ok songs.... but not -deep- songs.
