I am dissapointed in you, and you know who you are. Well, you will once you're done reading this.
Honesty is not "soft." Rather, it is the ultimate strength, and the ultimate in confidence. When you can stand up and say THIS IS WHAT I AM, THIS IS WHAT I FEEL, you are as strong as anyone on earth. To brave judgement, to brave discrimination, to brave controversy. That is strength. To not hide behind poli-social deception, that is strength. Your appearance to the world means nothing if it is dishonest. At least, in my humble opinion.
Your ability to be clear, honest, and rational has earned you my respect, and your choice to stop doing so does not lose it for you. Your decision to muddle people's perception of yourself surprises me, and confuses me. But it is your choice to make, and as with all others whether or not I share your opinion, I will respect it. It is the ability that is unquestioned - everyone needs to prove themselves, and in this manner you have done so. You needn't continue to be respected for the ability.
The choice? The choice, I disagree with. But it is yours to make. Good luck, in all things - you and I both know that at least in one specific endeavor, you'll face absurdity, beurocracy, and in some cases even complete idiocy. You've got to manage, and I don't envy those challenges - so certainly, good luck.
