So my iPod came :) Shipped from Taiwan on the 9th, arrived here at 9:30 AM on the 12th. FedEx is really an impressive company. And this thing is really an impressive player. Like, more so than I'd even realized. Start with the fact that I've got 10 gigs of music in less than the volume of a pack of cigarettes - and it keeps itself updated. I just plug it into my computer, and my computer automatically loads all the new music I've gotten since I last updated (or anything it has that my iPod doesn't) onto the player. And it's not USB like most players - it's firewire, which you can tell other people is fast but until you actually SEE the difference you don't buy it. My old player - 160 megs over USB could take 15 minutes to move all the music. My iPod (10 gigs over firewire) takes just a little longer than that to move the 7 gigs i just put on it. And only takes about a minute to update.

It gets better though. Navigating through 10 gigs can be hard on a computer - on a player it could be impossible. But there's a touch pad scroll wheel that's extremely quick and intutive, and menus to sort by literally anything. If I keep my ID3 tags up to date (which I've been doing recently) I can sort by artist, album,or genere. Like, if I want to listen to Acapella, I just sort by genere and it gets all my acapella instantly onto a playlist. I can also make more complicated playlists on my computer and save them to the ipod when I connect and transfer. It's tiny, it's got a nice little case, a wired remote (so the case can protect the controls and you can still adjust volume, what track is playing, and pause it) and it came with very VERY good earbuds (best I've ever heard - the sound is top notch, bass and all, but they're not that comfortable and they're not noise reducing so my roomates will be able to hear them so I'm still gonna need new headphones).

Overall I'm extremely pleased with my purchase, despite it's reasonably high cost. You get quality for what you pay for.

Sorry to geek out like that ;)
